Hi fox661,

Welcome to Amie Street!

We have some recommendations for you to help get you started discovering new music.

Below are a great mix of up-and-coming artists and more established musicians hand-picked for your listening pleasure!

100 Days, 100 Nights
Essential Soul
One Hundred Days, One Hundred Nights established Brooklyn's Daptone Records as today's most important soul/funk label and catapulted Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings to a new level of stardom. Their sound is so authentically retro that Amy Winehouse hired them to play on her Grammy-winning album Back To Black. Critically acclaimed by The New York Times and Rolling Stone, this album is filled with gritty funk and soul, and reminds us that before Whitney, Mariah, and Jay-Z, there was Tina, Aretha, and J.B.

Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?
Essential Indie Rock
This Athens, Georgia collective has been creating unpredictable, synth-infused indie pop since the mid-1990s. The band's most recent and ambitious release to date, Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? was written and recorded while lead singer/guitarist Kevin Barnes was battling depression. In spite of its dark inspiration, the album is a mixture of playful experimentation and glam-rock bombast; Paste Magazine calls it "the most fun one can reasonably have while wrestling with somebody else's demons."

Elevate
Essential Electronic
Throughout his prolific career, Morgan Page has remixed tracks for Stevie Nicks, Tegan & Sara, Regina Spektor and Korn. In 2006 alone, three of his remixes reached number one on the Billboard Club Play charts. Elevate features several of Page's own original tunes, as well as remixes of Nelly Furtado's smash hit "Maneater" and tracks by The Submarines, Leigh Nash and Jenny Owen Youngs. Regardless of the origin of the song, Page's knack for melody and danceability is impeccable.

Essential Pop
All songs on Nighttiming were written, performed and sung by Jason Schwartzmann, formerly of Phantom Planet and star of Wes Anderson's films Rushmore and The Darjeeling Unlimited. The new project, Coconut Records, is Jason's first musical outing since he left Phantom Planet in 2003, the band best known for their hit "California", the theme song for The O.C. The first single from Nighttiming, "West Coast" was used in the series finale of The O.C.

With encouragement from Bob Marley in the early 1970s, Burning Spear quickly launched a successful career preaching a message of honesty, peace and love with his danceable reggae and dub. The Burning Spear Experience features performances spanning this legendary artist's career and includes classic studio and live recordings, as well as history lessons and words of wisdom.

No Ground Under
Essential Hip Hop
Ghislain Poirier's name is practically synonymous with bass at this point. His popular Montreal parties, called "Bounce le Gros," showcased grime, ragga, booty bass, and dancehall, and his remixing skills have been sought after by artists like Clipse, Lady Sovereign and Editors. No Ground Under is his first album on Ninja Tune Records, and also the first album to capture the hard-hitting energy of his live shows. With choice appearances by dancehall MCs like Zulu and Face-T, this album is the best new reason to blow out your subwoofers.
